“Call to Heaven” by Neal McChristy

Can you see heaven and live? That has haunted Ralph McConnell, a 15-year old Arkansas youth since an episode at school where he went to heaven, saw Jesus and was accompanied by the Apostle John. The apostle, on earth for over 2,000 years, has become a mentor to Ralph on Earth. But his parents are struggling with the question of his experience – as is his closest friend. His mother, Twila, who tries to keep her children involved in religion, is worried about her son’s experience, which is causing anguish for the entire family. Ralph has too many questions for her to answer. Ralph explores teen feelings he goes to college and launches his first flirtation. The mischievous Apostle becomes his mentor at college, too. During the first year, he reveals his NDE to a journalist. Ralph’s father dies after an accident, but that is not all of the upsetting developments in his young life as he attempts to deal with his father’s absence.
