“You are taking a solo nature walk, and a hungry grizzly bear jumps out of the woods, or you fall off of a subway platform onto the tracks of an oncoming high-speed train. In either instance, you’re not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow; you are in the NOW with your underwear full of crap. Nothing else matters. The mind, in a microsecond, is alert, and still, you are in the moment. Completely. There isn’t time to turn the situation into a problem you can complain about for the next three weeks. The Bear doesn’t want to hear it, and the train can’t stop. There is an intelligence in that space between your thoughts that knows what action you need to take. Immediately! If your brain freezes, most likely due to idleness, you won’t know what hit you. It happens. Your show gets canceled, nothing personal. Volunteering for dangerous activities will take you to that place of no thought; driving a racecar two hundred miles an hour, skydiving, climbing Mount Everest. Those things are fine if you enjoy them, but you don’t need them to connect with the deeper dimension of who you are; self-aware intention will take you there without all the bumps and bruises.”
Your Ultimate Purpose is a two-dimensional narrative, weaved into one common-sense approach to a balanced life, part human, part being, in the world but not of the world—free of compulsive thinking. Always connected to the deeper dimension of who we are—children of God.
